The first graders worked on a butterfly art lesson. We study the patterns in monarch butterfly wings and then drew out half of a butterfly using pencil to sketch. Then we traced our lines with black oil pastel. The students could chose to use warm or cool colors to paint the inside of the butterfly. For the background, we tried a wet on wet watercolor technique and then sprinkled salt on the wet paint! It created a really interesting background design after brushing the salt away when they dried! I think they look so beautiful!
